Zero Teen Pregnancies

A Message from SGUW

Strong Girls United Women (SGUW) was founded on the simple idea that all women and girls are valuable and have the right to live a life of their choosing. It was also founded with the knowledge that for many women and girls in Salone, and around the globe, this is not a reality, and it must change. This is the work of Strong Girls United Women.

The type of development we practice is called "sustainable, community-led" development. It is based on the concept of meeting the present's needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It is a comprehensive approach that balances economic, environmental, and social factors to ensure long-term well-being for both people and the planet. In practice, it means we work together with community members to determine the optimal solutions for their development issues while supporting sustainable and improving livelihoods today.

In 2015, the UN passed the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Goals are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. The goal is to reduce poverty and other deprivations, hand-in-hand with strategies to improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.

Zero Teen Pregnancies

During summer holiday, two years ago, we were called by one of our school head masters- he reported ZERO teenage pregnancies in the school. He credited SGUW and added- it had never happened before. It was not just the girls in the SGUW class either- it was the whole school.
