The GEWE act is here and rolling out in Sierra Leone. I give it a grade of B as a law- meaning it's a good piece of legislation but not perfect. The real impact of GEWE will be in it's implementation- as we all know- laws mean nothing if they are not enforced and respected. Successful social movements, ones that create substantial and lasting change, have elements that come from the bottom up and from the top down. Legislation is change from the top down and without it there would be no way to hasten these necessary changes in private companies. It's another tool in the toolbox of change for the united women and strong girls of Salone. Take a look at the snapshot below. We'll send updates as the roll out continues.
