We've been Busy at SGUW

Things are bustling around here. It's truly exhilarating to be part of such a dynamic and high-energy team. The buzz around the SGUW offices is palpable, and we're embracing this vibrant and flourishing period for our organization. Here are a few highlights from our recent outreach and advocacy work.

Dorah, our intrepid leader, was invited to talk about SGUW's work at the Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School in Amhearst, Massachusetts. Dorah's daughter - Grace- who attends the school- wanted to share SGUW's work with her class. (She's proud of us.)

Dorah reported the students were

engaged and very interested to learn about SGUW and children's lives in Sierra Leone. This was a bit of a departure for our President. Usually, she can be found on the phone, assisting the staff and building SGUW's network and partnerships with media, government and civil society folks in Salone.

In Bo, Aziz and Tewoh attended the final day of 16 Days of Activism against SGBV. (sexual and gender based violence) A Comic Football game- men v women- was held as a healthy, light-hearted way to celebrate progress made together.

Back in the capital, Freetown, the 16 Days ended with a rally thrown by our partners and friends at Rainbo Inititiative to support survivors of SGBV. Joined by thousands, Chernor and Sonia and a bunch of SGUW students marched 25 kilometers!

Later in the week, Chernor presented at a conference discussing the nexis between human rights and climate change, inlcuding the impacts on future generations and their right to a healthy environment. This was a large conference with international organizations and high level goverment types there. It was widely covered by the media and Chernor made it onto the national news.

As you can see, we've been incredibly busy lately, and it's fantastic to see our hard work paying off with numerous new and successful projects. The high demand for SGUW in outreach, convening and advocacy is a testament to the value we bring to our community, and it's keeping us on our toes in the best way possible.

As we come rapidly to the end of 2023- we ask you to consider supporting SGUW with a donation. We appreciate all of our past and current supporters and hope you to include you in that company. Use the DONATE button on the website to give securely through our paypal account.
